MAPS & EVACUATION ROUTES
⚠ CRITICAL TIP

Download offline maps NOW before any emergency. Open Google Maps or Apple Maps, search your region, and save it for offline use. Cell networks and internet are often the first things to fail during a major disaster. Having offline maps of your area and 2–3 states around you could be life-saving.

NUCLEAR PREPAREDNESS
☢ KI TABLETS — POTASSIUM IODIDE

Where to buy: Amazon, Walmart.com, CVS, Walgreens, or direct from iOSAT.com or ANBEX.com. Cost: $10–$20 per pack. FDA-approved brands: iOSAT (130mg), ThyroSafe (65mg), ThyroShield (liquid).

⚠ WARNING: Only take KI when directed by authorities. It protects only the thyroid — not the whole body. Do NOT substitute with table salt. Consult a doctor if you have thyroid conditions.

📍
DISTANCE RULE
Stay 10–20 miles minimum from blast zone. 100–200+ miles upwind significantly reduces fallout exposure. Driving through fallout can be more dangerous than sheltering.
🏢
BEST SHELTER BUILDINGS
Brick/concrete multi-story buildings offer the best protection. Go to middle floors, center of building. Avoid top floors and ground level near windows.
⏱️
THE 7-10 RULE
Radiation drops ~90% for every 7-fold increase in time. After 7 hours, radiation is 10% of peak. After 49 hours, it's 1%. Stay inside 24+ hours minimum.
💨
WIND DIRECTION
Fallout travels downwind from the blast. Being upwind of any target zone is critical. Check NOAA wind forecasts before deciding to shelter vs. evacuate.
LOWER-RISK REGIONS (US)
🏔️NORTHERN ROCKIES
  • Idaho, Montana, Wyoming
  • Remote, few strategic targets
  • Low population density
⛰️CENTRAL APPALACHIA
  • Rural KY, WV, TN
  • Inland, mountainous terrain
  • Away from major target cities
🌲PACIFIC NW INTERIOR
  • Eastern Oregon & Washington
  • Away from coastal cities
  • Natural terrain barriers
🌿RURAL NEW ENGLAND
  • Vermont, Maine, rural NH
  • Low strategic target value
  • Away from NYC/Boston corridor
